Cyclist on Jan Waaijerbrug Zoetermeer
This photo of a lonely cyclist was taken at the Jan Waaijer Bridge in Zoetermeer. The bridge connects the Westerpark with the Nieuwe Driemanspolder and is named after former mayor of Zoetermeer Jan Waaijer. The bridge was designed by architects Syb van Breda & Co. The inspiration for the bridge is the work "Het Laantje van Middelharnis" by the 17th century landscape painter Meindert Hobbema. The sparse trees that flanked Hobbema's lane have been replaced by lampposts with a rounded roof. The image of a bridge hanging in the air flanked by metal trees gives a futuristic look. A passing cyclist gives the photo dynamism.
